Those rabbinic materials are not "Jehovah's inspiried word" Leolaia! They don't count...

Egyptians rubbing poo-poo in their boo-boos
by drew sagan inthe title of this thread says is all .
i remember the basic argument.
ancient egyptians were so stupid they put feces in their open wounds, but gods people had the knowledge to bury it.. my question is, did this actually appear in an official watchtower magazine or book?.

Great info Leolaia, and thanks for the extra quotes Billy the Ex-Bethelite.
An interseting side point. I wonder how this argument found its way into the "canon" of Watchtower arguments. It seems like something borrowed from a protestant source (possibly turn of the century?), but that is just a guess.

Thanks for the reference Leolaia. I swear this was in a more modern JW book, but I could be wrong.
A more substantive question, is anything really gained by comparing the mosaic law to the Papyrus Ebers? I suppose if you date the early books of the BIble as early as the WTS does then this is more relevant.

I can easily see them dispense with offering periodical magazines in the ministry, and switch over to just tracts, books, and other things. It would mean greater effeciency for those offering literature, and for them, since they would only have to publish the mags for publishers.
I think you are generally correct, but are missing an important point. The magazines are not important for their ministry, rather, they are important for controlling the flock. The Watchtower magazine(not Awake!, that thing is superfluous) is an important tool in communicating a steady flow of WTS information directly to the JW for about an hour each week (not counting personal reading of the magazine). It creates the "official" line of communication between leader and follower. There really can be no other media that replaces this in the WT system.

PDF magazines may be used to compliment the WTS publishing work, but that ceartainly doesn't meant that printed magazines are on their way out.
I could be wrong, but I believe they actually still produce hard copies of the material currently available online (mp3 files). The idea of using the web is to cut down on the costs of tangible media, not to eliminate it. Not all JWs have internet access, printers, mp3 players, ect. Do some of you reall believe that pdf files will be it? What about older people who can't use a computer? The idea of a totally digital Watchtower is abusd. They will simple use it to cut costs where they can, and that's about it.
As for 'tracking' members IP address I think the imagination on this board is astounding. The WTS doesn't care that much. Sure, if something is obvious (active member owning a ex-jw/anti-jw website) something could (I stress COULD) happen. But the amount of resources necessary to mine the kind of data people are talking about here would be huge.
The main thrust of the WTS/JW agenda is focused around information found in printed magazines, and it will remain that way for a long time to come. The Elders in local congregations will continue to be the tool used to control the flock. My guess is the magazines will go live in pdf with no security barriers. It would simply be too complicated to implement. The only people that have an interest in the PDF files besides JWs are ex-jws, and the WTS has already shown that their intersts in the activities of ex-members is nominal at best.
Additionally, to believe that there will be some paradigm shift away from this model is to ignore 100 years of watchtower history.

Excellent points.
Every situation is different, yet I too feel that the abrupt 'cold turkey' approach has a great many problems that people tend to overlook. You make an excellent point in regards to the JWs being a male oriented, top down, authority structure. The more connected you are within the congregation, the more organization dirt you can share with your JW loved ones (especially wife).
The organization works hard to project a romantic myth about itself. By sharing the internal problems, the idealized picture comes into question.
I'm so glad you went about this the way that you did. It serves as and excellent example.
As a side not, there was a thread I posted one time in which I openly wondered about going into the organization deeper in order to pull my wife out. I figured that I could do a lot of what you mentioned in this post. It turned out that none of it was necessary. Each situation is different.

I would suggest all ex-jws to do it, even if you have no religious interests. It's positive way to break down the stereotype JWs have built up in you.
